Dan was a great friend, neighbor, colleague and mentor. When our house across the street was being painted, he and Bethany offered their own as an essential refuge. On a warm summer night he taught us the exuberant joys of nightball. His boys spent hours playing in our yard, and we enjoyed some fine meals at their table. Dan’s extensive knowledge and understanding of community made him a trusted and enthusiastic supporter of KAOS FM. He sponsored students who interned at the radio station, and encouraged me when I took the leap into graduate studies. Knowing my interest in railroads, he gifted me his toy trains from his childhood. He introduced me to Uncle Eddie – his dilapidated Jeep pickup truck – and solemnly warned me to be vigilant with the failing brakes. He had a beautiful laugh, a rapier wit, and a powerful capacity to blend theory and practice. To know him has been a joy and an honor.
Celebrating and sharing the organizing history, lessons learned, research and analysis of Daniel Burke Leahy.
