It is hard to believe that such a vital force as Dan is gone. I’m not surprised to hear that he was engaged right up to the end.

I was thinking of Dan today as I was reading the latest issue of the BCTF magazine and there was an article about the Tri-national conference held in Oaxaca last fall. He, of course, was the key to the creation of what has become a thirty year collective solidarity movement that has tied together activist teachers in the three countries. It has given hundreds of members of my union a personal connection to international solidarity over those years as well as nurtured personal friendships that have been a valued part of my life. I opted not to go to this conference for the first time as part of handing on the responsibility of continuing and building to younger colleagues who have been inspired by the experiences and I feel confident that it will continue.
